How do you get referrals without asking awkwardly?

Ask once, at the moment a client tells you something went well, and hand them a link to pass on. “I’m glad. If you know anybody else stuck on this, here’s my page” is a sentence, not a sales pitch. The awkward version is asking everybody at once, by email, months later.

  1. Step 1

    Wait for the moment.

A client says the interview went well, the launch worked, the back stopped hurting. That’s it.

  2. Step 2

    Say you’re glad first.

The referral ask comes second, and it’s short.

  3. Step 3

    Name the kind of person.

“Anybody else starting a new role” is easier to act on than “anybody who might need me”.

  4. Step 4

    Give them the link.

Not your phone number, not “they can search for me”. A link they can paste into a message.

  5. Step 5

    Thank them when it works.

When somebody books and mentions them, say thank you. It’s the reason they’ll do it again.

On WorkWith, a client who has booked or paid can copy their own link to your page from their private page and send it however they like. If somebody new books through it, you see who referred them on that client’s page in the app.
