Guides · Selling more than hours
What should you sell after a client’s package ends?
A monthly offering, for the clients who want to keep going, offered before the last session, not after it. And nothing at all for the ones who got what they came for. Let them go well, and they send you the next one.
The last session of a package is the worst time to talk about what comes next. The work is wrapping up, the goodbye is already in the room, and “so, would you like to keep going?” sounds like a sales pitch tacked onto a farewell.
Bring it up one session early
With one session left, ask it as a question about the work: do you want to keep going, and at what pace? For somebody who wants to continue at a slower rhythm, a monthly retainer with two sessions held each month is the usual answer.
Make yes easy
- A monthly price that’s less than the same sessions booked one by one.
- Sessions that refill each month, so nobody counts anything.
- Stopping that takes effect at the end of a paid month, so yes isn’t a trap.
And sometimes, sell nothing
When the client got what they came for, say so, and say the door’s open. A client who leaves pleased is the best marketing a practice of one ever gets.
