Writing to your list
Your words, from your own address.
Notes is a newsletter and a blog in one. Each note goes on your page and, if you send it, to the people who asked to hear from you.
Notes to your clients go out from your own domain, never from ours. Mail lands in an inbox because the address sending it has a good name. That name is yours, and no other practice shares it. Replies come straight to you.
Writing to one client at a time from your regular inbox needs none of this, and your link already works in those emails. Set this up when you write to many people at once.
You need your own domain
Mailbox providers expect anyone writing to a list to send from a domain they own, with records that prove it. If you don’t have a domain yet, hold off. Send a note from a Gmail address to 50 people and most of it lands in spam.
The short way: we set it up
- Type your domain, such as yourname.com, into Write to them on your Clients screen. We set up notes.yourname.com for your notes.
- Answer the questions until each one says yes. The screen asks who may send email as you, whether your notes are signed, and whether bounced notes can find their way back. Where one says not yet, tap Fix this: it shows the one thing to add, where to click at your domain provider, and what that provider calls each box, with every value one tap to copy.
- Tap Check now. Changes can take an hour to show up. After that, your notes come from your first name at notes.yourname.com.
The rows touch only notes.yourname.com, so your everyday email and your website carry on exactly as they are. Your notes go out through an account we keep only for professionals’ notes, never the one your booking confirmations and invoices go out on, so a note can’t get in the way of those. Each practice can send to 2,000 people a day.
Or use a Resend account of your own
- Open a Resend account at resend.com. The free tier is enough to start.
- Verify your domain there. Resend shows you a few DNS records to add where your domain is managed. Wait for Resend to say Verified.
- Make an API key (API Keys → Create, full access) and paste it into Write to them on your Clients screen, after tapping Use a Resend account of your own instead, with the address your notes should come from, such as notes@yourname.com.
Your list then lives in your Resend account as an audience, and Resend handles its unsubscribes and bounces.
What happens when you send
A note goes only to people who said yes to hearing from you. A client says yes by ticking a box when they book, or on their own page, and we keep a record of when they said it and the words they saw. Nobody ticks it for them, and nobody is emailed to ask.
Every note ends with your postal address, because US law asks for it on mail like this; a PO box is fine. It also ends with a way off the list, and mailboxes like Gmail show their own unsubscribe button too. Anyone who leaves never hears from you again, and anyone whose address bounces for good or who marks a note as spam is taken off too. We never send marketing mail from our own domain on your behalf, and we never undo an unsubscribe.
A note you wrote under Notes on your Link screen can go out the same way: tap Email it on the note.
A note, on LinkedIn and X
On a note under Notes on your Link screen, tap Draft posts for LinkedIn and X. You get a version for each, written from your note and nothing else, to edit where it appears. Copy and open LinkedIn copies your text and opens LinkedIn with the note’s address ready; paste the text above it. Open X with this opens X with both. You press Post yourself, and the drafts aren’t kept.
If your notes are paused
On notes we set up, two spam complaints in 30 days pause your notes, and so do too many addresses that bounce for good. Today tells you when it happens. Your page, your bookings and your booking emails carry on as before. Write to us, and we’ll go through what happened with you before we start your notes again. The usual cause is a list of people who don’t remember giving you their address.
People can add themselves
yourname.workwith.page/notes is a page where somebody leaves their name and email to hear from you. They get one email from you with a button in it, and they’re added once they tap it, so nobody can put somebody else on your list. Put the address in a bio, an email signature or at the end of a talk.
Notes on your page, and their feed
A note you write under Notes on your Link screen goes on yourname.workwith.page/notes, at an address of its own you can share, and can end with one of your offerings. The same notes are an RSS feed at yourname.workwith.page/notes/feed.xml.
To have each new note emailed without connecting anything here, point an RSS-to-email service of your own, such as Buttondown, at that feed. It sends from your account to your list, and nothing of ours is in between.
A sending name is burned by complaints, not by volume, and the one on these notes is yours.
