Is the admin running your practice?

Ask yourself whether your admin is under control and you’ll answer with a feeling. Ask how many messages it took to book a time last month and you’ll answer with a number. All twelve questions here ask about what happens, the way the second one does.

They cover how somebody books you, pays you and knows what they agreed to. In about three minutes you’ll have a score out of thirty-six and the one thing to fix first.

Getting booked

How does a new client end up with a time in your calendar?
In the last month, how many times did finding a time take more than three messages?
Somebody decides to book you at eleven on a Sunday night. What happens?

Getting paid

When does the money usually arrive?
Right now, how many invoices are past their due date?
How does a late invoice get chased?

What was agreed

Before a new client pays you, what have they agreed to in writing?
A client cancels two hours before. What decides whether they pay?
A client asks what they agreed to six months ago. Could you show them, as it was then?

What it costs you

In a normal week, how long goes on admin rather than the work itself?
Between finding you and paying you, how many separate places does a client have to go?
When did you last do practice admin outside your working hours?

Answer all 12 and the score appears here, with the one part to fix first. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Questions

How long does this take?

About three minutes. There are twelve questions, three for each of four things: getting booked, getting paid, what was agreed, and the hours the admin costs you.

Why does it ask what happened rather than how good I am at something?

People misjudge their own habits and remember counts well. A count from last month has one true answer, while how organized you are changes with the week you've had.

What is a good score?

Thirty or more out of thirty-six, and the admin isn't what's holding your practice back. Under twelve, and work is probably being lost before it reaches you. A score in the twenties means about a day a month of unpaid work.

Is my answer saved anywhere?

No. There's no account and no email field, and nothing is sent to us. Close the page and your answers are gone.
