How do you tell existing clients about a price rise?

One at a time, in writing, at least a month before it applies to them. Say the new price, the date and that anything already booked stays as it was. Give a reason only if it’s about the work. Don’t apologize, because a price rise isn’t a mistake.

  1. Step 1

    Pick the date first.

A month or more from the day you tell them.

  2. Step 2

    Write to each client.

One message per client, not a newsletter. It’s their price.

  3. Step 3

    Say three things.

The new price, the date, and that what they’ve already booked or paid for is unchanged.

  4. Step 4

    Let them book ahead.

Anything booked before the date is at the old price. Some will, and that’s fine.

  5. Step 5

    Answer pushback once.

Kindly, with the same price and the same date.

  6. Step 6

Change the page on the date.

    For everybody at once.

The month before a price rise has the message and the reply, filled in with your numbers.
