What should your refund policy be?

It depends on what you sell. Sessions follow the cancellation window. Packages refund what’s unused. Files are usually final once downloaded. A course refunds dates not yet held. A monthly retainer stops at the end of the month already paid. Write one line for each offer you have.

What you sellA common refund rule
A sessionRefunded if canceled before the window, charged inside it
A packageUnused sessions refunded if either of you ends the work in writing
A fileFinal once it’s been downloaded, refunded if it doesn’t open or isn’t what was described
A course on set datesIn full before the first date, then the dates not yet held
A monthly retainerStops at the end of the month already paid, with no refund for that month

The course line, word for word

The line a WorkWith course sheet shows under the agreement: “A course that runs on set dates is bought as a whole. You can cancel it up to 24 hours before the first date and be refunded in full. Once it has started, the dates you haven't had yet are refunded when you tell me that you're stopping, except a date less than 24 hours away, which is charged. If I have to move a date, I move it for everyone and tell you first, and if the new time doesn't work for you, that date is refunded.”

Unused package sessions

The coaching agreement WorkWith starts with refunds them when either side ends the coaching in writing. What happens to package sessions nobody used? covers the case where nobody ends it and the window runs out.

When you refund

On WorkWith, a refund is a tap and a confirmation on the payment in Money, and our fee on it comes back with the money. A monthly retainer can be stopped by you or by the client, and it stops at the end of the month that’s paid for.

Not legal advice

This explains what agreements commonly cover. Your profession, your country and the size of the work can each change what yours needs, and a lawyer who knows them is the person to ask.
