5.1 Publishing your prices
Who a starting price turns away, and who it brings in already decided.
Transcript
A page with no price asks the visitor to do your homework. Most of them won’t. They’ll leave, and you’ll never know they came.
The few who do write to you will ask, and then you’ll have the price conversation by email, where it’s harder, and where they’ll pay you less for the privilege.
So put a number on the page. At least a starting price. “From” and a figure.
Yes, it turns some people away. That’s the point. The people it turns away are the ones who were never going to pay it, and now they leave without taking an hour of your week first.
And the people who stay have already seen the number. When they write, they’ve decided. The conversation is about when, not how much.
A starting price isn’t a promise. It’s a door. The work can cost more. The first conversation can go wherever it needs to. But nobody walks in blind.
