What to send after a discovery call
The same day: what you heard, the one offer you’d recommend, its price and its link. “You want to walk into the review with a plan, so I’d start with three sessions, at the single price. Here’s the link.” One recommendation is easier to say yes to than a menu.
When to send it: Within a few hours of the call.
The message
Hi Sam, Thanks for the call. What I heard: the review is in five weeks, and you want to walk in with numbers and a plan rather than a list of things you did. I’d suggest three sessions over the next month, at $180 each. The first would be the numbers. The link to book is below. Maya
When it isn’t a fit
Hi Sam, thanks for the call. I don’t think I’m the right person for this: what you need is a specialist in employment law, and I’d try the people at the bar association’s referral service. I hope it goes well. Maya
Why it works
- Playing back what they said shows you listened, in one sentence.
- One recommendation with a reason beats three options with no guidance.
- Sent the same day, it arrives while they’re still thinking about it.
What not to say
- “Let me know if you’d like to work together.” It hands the next step back to them.
- A long proposal for a session-sized problem.
