What should you do in your first ninety days?
Weeks one and two, make the page: one offer, a price, your agreement. Weeks three to six, have five conversations with people who know your work. By week eight, take your first paid booking. By week twelve, ask your first client who else they know. Nothing else comes first.
- Step 1
Week 1: write the sentence.
Who you help, with what, so that what. Twenty examples show the shape.
- Step 2
Week 1: work out the price.
From what you need to take home, with the calculator. Write the number down before you look at what anybody else charges.
- Step 3
Week 2: write the agreement.
What they get, when they pay, the cancellation window. The agreement writer gives you a draft to edit.
- Step 4
Week 2: put up the page.
One offer, its price, your available times and the agreement. A client should be able to book and pay without writing to you first.
- Step 5
Weeks 3 to 6: five conversations.
Write to five people who know your work, one at a time. Where do the first clients come from? has the list and the message.
- Step 6
Weeks 3 to 6: ask what they’d pay for.
Not whether they like the idea. What they’d book, and what would stop them.
- Step 7
Week 8: the first paid booking.
At the full price. If nobody has booked, change one thing, the offer or the sentence, and write to five more people.
- Step 8
Week 10: deliver it well, and write down what happened.
What the client asked, what helped, what you’d change. That’s next month’s offer description.
- Step 9
Week 12: ask for the next one.
Ask your first client if they know anybody with the same problem. Then ask them for a few words about the work, with the testimonial asker.
What to leave out
A logo, a newsletter, a podcast, a second offer and anything that makes you feel busy without a client in it. They’ll still be there in month four, and by then you’ll know what your clients want them to say.
Ninety days, one page, five conversations. The rest follows the first booking.
Twelve questions to run in month three, and the one thing to fix first.
