How to tell people you’ve started your own practice
One person at a time, with what you do, who for, and one link. “I’ve started taking clients for career coaching, mostly people moving into their first management role. If you know anybody, here’s my page.” A personal message to thirty people does more than a post to three thousand.
When to send it: In the first weeks, a few people a day.
One person at a time
Hi Sam, I wanted you to hear it from me: I’ve left Northfield and started taking clients for career coaching, mostly people moving into their first management role. If you know anybody facing that, I’d be grateful if you passed on my page. And if it’s you, even better. Maya
As a post
After twelve years running teams, I’ve started my own practice coaching people through their first management job. One-to-one sessions by video, and a four-week course in March. If you know somebody stepping up this year, my page is in the comments.
Why it works
- Hearing it personally makes people want to help.
- The kind of client is named, so they can think of someone.
- The post says what you do and for whom in the first sentence.
What not to say
- “I’m thrilled to announce…” Readers decide in the first line whether it’s for them.
- A long story about why you left.
