Words to send · Being found and remembered

How to get back in touch with a past client

No pitch, one useful thing. A note that something made you think of them, with an article, an idea or an answer to a question they had. If they want to work together again, they’ll say so. The message’s job is to be worth opening.

When to send it: Any time there’s something genuinely useful to send. Not on a schedule.

The message

Subject: Thought of you

Hi Sam, I came across this piece on running a team’s first offsite and thought of the planning you were doing last spring. No reply needed. I hope the new role is going well. Maya

Why it works

  • It gives something and asks for nothing.
  • The specific memory shows you remember them, not a contact list.

What not to say

  • “Just checking in.” It asks them to do the work of replying.
  • A discount to come back.
