How to thank somebody for a referral
Short, specific and soon: who booked, that you’re grateful, and nothing about money. “Priya booked a session this morning and mentioned you. Thank you, that means a lot.” A thank-you that names the person is the reason they’ll refer again.
When to send it: Once the person they sent has booked.
The message
Subject: Thank you
Hi Sam, Priya booked a session this morning and mentioned you sent her my way. Thank you. It means a lot, and I’ll look after her. Maya
Why it works
- The name makes it real.
- “I’ll look after her” is the thing a referrer cares about most.
What not to say
- A discount or a payment as thanks. It turns a favor into a transaction.
- Sharing anything about the work you’re doing with the person they sent.
