For translators
Every job starts with a document and ends with a quote. Let the client send the file from their own page, price by the word or the page, and take a share before you begin.
What clients ask before sending the file
How should a translator price a job?
By the source word for most documents, by the page for scans, and by the hour for editing someone else’s translation. Add a minimum fee so a two-line job is still worth taking.
Should a translator charge more for rush work?
Yes, and say how much in your agreement before anybody asks. A surcharge for delivery inside two working days is common.
Who owns a translation?
The client, once it’s paid for, unless your agreement says otherwise. Say whether you may keep it in your translation memory.
What gets in the way
Documents arrive as email attachments, in three versions, from two different people.
A quote by the word turns into an argument when the client sends a scanned PDF nobody can count.
Rush jobs land on Friday afternoon and get paid sixty days later.
What’s different for translators
The file from their own page
Your client sends documents from their own page, and they land on their row in your app instead of somewhere in your inbox.
A quote as an offer
Send an offer from the client’s row with the word count, the deadline and the price in the scope. They accept the agreement and pay the share you set before you start.
Your page on the first day
This is the design or creative setup, and it’s what your page starts with. Change any of it where it appears.
- Clients can book from tomorrow onward.
- Moving or canceling is free up to 24 hours before.
- Before booking, your page asks: “What are we making, and by when?”
Your project agreement opens with this: Half of the project price is due up front and half on delivery. The scope is what we agreed in writing; new work is a new agreement.
What it doesn’t do for you
There’s no translation memory, no word counter and no glossary. You’ll translate in the tools you use now; the page holds the files, the agreement and the money.
